Throughout history, censorship has played a significant role in shaping the narrative that women should feel ashamed in seeking pleasure, opting for the idea that a woman’s only purpose is to please her masculine counterpart. This can be seen in a number of ways ranging from the lack of proper female sexual education to restrictions on artistic expression. Yet, in the midst of these shadows, figures like Madonna and Anaïs Nin have stood as torchbearers of defiance, challenging conventional norms surrounding female sexuality and illuminating the path for others to explore and assert their sexual agency. Despite this, unfortunately, censorship remains a potent force, creating boundaries and labeling subjects as taboo. It keeps women's voices muffled and their narratives incomplete.
