The artist seeks contact with his intuitive sense of the gods, but in order to create his work, he cannot stay in this seductive and incorporeal realm. He must return to the material world in order to do his work. It's the artist's responsibility to balance mystical communication and the labor of creation.” - Patti Smith

Creation is something that has been woven into the very thread of our existence as humans. In a way, we’re all artists— even if we’re not making our art in a creative sense. Not all women can have children, yet there is still the inherent desire to bring life to something in the world. The artist is the mother and their art is the child, much like the relationship of a plant from seed to fruit. It’s symbiotic and giving, one providing an intrinsic need while the other nurtures. Without that, an artist can feel empty and unfulfilled and seek creation in the most mundane aspects of life.

However, sometimes this boredom is where fantasy truly flourishes and an artist’s greatest work is born into the world. In this way, there is a delicate line to be tiptoed between those moments of inspiration in order to truly feel accomplished as an artist, and not feel the potential of what could be slipping through your fingers.

Within the medium of collage, we are allowed to experiment with color, texture, shape and more. It can be interpreted in endless ways and bring forth unexpected emotions through its unique ability to pair unlike things in order to convey a specific message. It’s almost like words on a page— a smattering of metaphor and reality used to make an audience think and come to their own conclusions.
